I am currently in Tenerife for my Winter Slalom Training and wanted to share with you guys some thoughts and get the conversation started about Tenerife. For slalom it is definitely a very difficult spot to train at, the swell chop and strong wind make it very physical and technical to sail at. SO if you are still getting started with slalom I would not recommend it here. BUT if you do have some time and motivation to step it up of course training in hard conditions will eventually pay off. What I really like about el Medano is that you have so many equipment storages close to the sea, so you don't need a car to get to the beach and so on. Currently I store my Equipment at the TWS centre but most Centres have storage facilities for your gear.
What I currently dislike is, that flat rental prices have gone up a lot over the last couple of years and it is actually hard to find somewhere... Airbnb, abona immobiliario and facebook have been my main go to places to find somewhere. Anyone got any better secret tips for here? I checked also with Medano-4-you, they have some great places but fully booked... So my greatest recommendation apartmentwise will be: BOOK EARLY! For entry level wave sailing el Medano and the 'harbour wall' spot are really nice. Harbour wall is only really nice on a low tide though. For more advanced sailors Cabezo is also great, just always watch out for that famous 'Godzilla' Rock, those Rocks get covered by water on a High tide and can then be dangerous for your Fins! I recommend that you check out the Spot on a low tide to make sure you know where they are before going out for the first time.
I have't really explored many spots on Tenerife outside of El Medano. What are your favourite places on Tenerife?
Anaga and Taganana in the Nord were amazing , you should definitely visit =)
